Good Database with Parallel Processing Capabilities
Pros:
Teradata is used or has been used in past by most of the business enterprises. It processes of large amounts of data with ease. Easy to navigate and good graphic user interface Business users can also use it with basic training and query knowledge
Cons:
Big data processing is a challenge due to its existing architectures. The cloud based option needs to be more affordable and at par with other service providers.
The best of data management
Comments: I highly recommend using this application
Pros:
I like the advanced data management features, the artificial intelligence that is on the platform and its ability to manage multiple data
Cons:
since I have been using it I have not yet found any complications with the platform
Teradata Database - Enterprise Datawarehouse
Comments: Basically we have started to using this teradata database version 15.0 in our application with the short name called "EDW" - Which implies Enterprise Data-warehouse in our healthcare project to store all our claims flow from Medicare, Medicaid and Membership information for the past 10 years and beyond. This is purely used an data warehouse where whole of our cpmpany operating with 60000 employees as its base since we are saving all our claims, providers, membership and broker/agents information. By short we are using in one of healthcare portal to get the information from data warehouse (Legacy informations).
Pros:
Basically we have started to using this teradata database version 15.0 in our application. Some of the pros in using the teradata are: 1. Used for large data-sets and for ad-hoc queries. 2. Used for massive parallel processing (MPP) architecture like a single dataset table has been queried by multiple people and handling large volume of millions of rows. 3. It has a capability to expand a single data set in to enterprise wide. 4. It is fast in handling the queries for huge number of rows. 5. Good ROI since handling huge number of rows along with teradata support.
Cons:
Since we are having advantages it is also having its own CONS (Disadvantages): 1. Query handling is little tougher which is different from SQL/T-SQL. 2. Price is higher (Huge) for smaller enterprise applications to handle the parallel queries data. 3. Not having its own tools like Oracle, SQL server, Sybase or any other DBMS to export/Import, reporting etc.,. Only third party told which is having OLEDB/ODBC having can be operated. 4. ROI is higher however the initial investment is more and in stable for smaller enterprise applications. 5. Not user friendly like SQL server/Oracle DBMS.
A little expensive but definitely useful
Comments: Overall I have been using Teradata for 7 + years and I am satisfied with the product, however I do feel they need to focus on new technologies to make self service and scalability an important feature of the software.
Pros:
Teradata has been an extensively powerful database in prcocessing Terabytes of data. Once you configure the tables, partitions and indexes properly it really works excellently. However, there is a lot of effort required from the IT team to make it work perfectly. Its query performance is really high. Teradata Vantage Platform is also having a lot of AI-ML capabilities which can be used, along with virtualization which is important for any Datawarehouse.
Cons:
The fact that a lot of effort is required to make the data structures to be performant does not help a lot. A lot of the things should be done behind the screens by the software based on the query patterns. Also, the costing is a little bit more on the higher side.
Powerful database for Integration and data Analytics..
Comments: It's one of most powerful data integration and anaytics database solutions in the market today.
Pros:
Teradata massive parallel processing gives advantage to other database for data integration and analytics. Query and reporting performance differentiate it with other comparable tools. Also, it offers customized SAP integration solutoin which eleiminates a needs for core SAP integration implementation. Teradata TPT and pushdown implemtation used with Informatica eleminates needs for performance tunning manpower and let end user access reports without performance issue.
Cons:
The software is bit pricy and companies should move to cloud solutions wherever security is not a concern.
Alternatives Considered:
The unique and advanced features that teradata provide for data analysis purposes.
Comments: Teradata is very effective for scalable business for maintaining large amounts of data and for analysis purposes for taking future business decision with an efficient and organised way.
Pros:
The best thing about tera data is it’s completely based on shared nothing architecture that means the data are distributed across the AMPS in parallel way.that helps for faster loading the data into the VDISK and also for faster extraction.because all amps have its own vdisk attached with them. One more thing I liked about teradata is the User management and Locking system it’s providing for data security and user authentication.
Cons:
Sometimes it’s harder to understand the Locks mechanism and analytical function that are used inside a procedure for new coming user who wants to learn or use teradata. So it is bit complicated to understand someone’s pre written procedure.
Teradata database software is robust, high quality and highly scalable. good performance
Pros:
Highly scalable available vast prebuilt functionality like geospatial, json, xml types etc works well with hundreds terabytes ANSI SQl standard, available on AWS, Azure cloud.
Cons:
cost is more than the other competitive RDBMS products. Teradata PS services are costlier. Teradata provides lots of Teradata specific functionality which other DBMS products may not have it,so migration from Teradata to other RDBMS may be challenging sometimes.
Teradata
Pros:
No database can match Teradata's parallel processing and speed
Cons:
It's quite costlier as compared to other tools so that's an issue for companies
Teradata Review : Efficient Large scale DB
Pros:
eradata is the professional standard to measure other vendors against. I have not seen other vendors with the same confidence to arrange reference calls with their clients without a moderator in attendance. It has many features which helps to easily manage the data.
Cons:
Putting Teradata in the hands of someone who is not trained can give them a bad experience. It's like giving a car with a manual transmission to someone who's never driven.
Teradata data base
Pros:
Very fast and huge volume of data can be run very easily and can retrieve quickly
Cons:
Installation takes very good amount of time and bit costly
Teradata Database developer review
Comments:
It's a powerful data base software
self maintained administration available
Pros:
Highly scalable, lot of functionality available and easy to use Can maintain petabytes of data It can easily integrate with the big data systems
Cons:
It is costlier and they are many cheaper solutions available to serve the same purpose
Gets the Job done for Data Wizards
Pros:
This software can do everything you need if you are proficient with big data and SQL. I can export large datasets from a server quickly and with delimiter for easy importing.
Cons:
This is NOT a point and click data management tool. If you are working with large data you'll need to have experience and understanding with SQL or you will not be successful with Teradata. There are other point and click data bases that are easier.
I miss Teradata for my database needs!
Pros:
I used Teradata extensively at my last company, and I really miss it. The user interface was simple and efficient. Importing data was easy, and query results came quickly provided that users wrote efficiently.
Cons:
The only con I can think of has more to do with the occasional differences between Teradata SQL and MySQL, but that is rare, and not really the fault of the software.
teradata review
Comments: Good till we didn't had the boom of bigdata. It was faster and reliable.
Pros:
Parallel processing was the key to this database leading it to be a good choice for analysis and reporting in on-premise data sources.
Cons:
This product is expensive for storage and computation especially when compared to the cloud capabilites.
Must for OLAP, data warehousing, and Business Intelligence
Comments: I have been employed at Teradata for past 2 years. Its a must have product for companies which want to be data driven to make informed business decisions. It can analyze massive amounts of data very fast.
SQL beginner with Teradata
Pros:
It’s intuitive so when you’re entering in a query, it will color code the commands so you know you’re on the right track. It saves a record of your queries so you can go back to review. I have next to no experience with SQL, but it’s a large component of a new position and teradata makes it somewhat easy to navigate.
Cons:
Navigating the data tree in the leftmost column is somewhat confusing. This is not a program you learn by using. It definitely helps to have someone who knows the program walk you through it.
Vantage
Comments: Positive experience. Very user friendly.
Pros:
Good tool for hospital board members to access private, secure information for board meeting. Easy to use and access.
Cons:
I have not experienced any difficulties.
Doesn't work for our needs
Cons:
Projects in which we need to use Teradata often take months longer than others. Things get lost in the system, mismanaged and everyone ends up confused and frustrated. We only use it because our compliance area requires it.
An OK platform for Big Data
Pros:
Intuitive interface and easy to use in certain aspects however, with many functionalities that take time to understand
Cons:
Could be more feature rich for big data usage scenario
Backbone
Pros:
Teradata store tons and tons of data and is a scalable relational source. It also has a huge help online.
Cons:
Connection and queries take a significant amount of time. Errors are not intuitive many a times and have to be deciphered.
Big Data Engineer
Comments: I have used Teradata. Now it has well integrated with Big Data environ which is really important. They are having good connectors for ease of use and not to lose customers which is very important. I have used the Teradata database in one of my projects and its really easy to use and handles huge amounts of data easily.
Pros:
GUI which is very imp. And database fetching records.
Cons:
Software wise its good, but need to have more good support.
good for business analytics
Pros:
cloud and hardware data warehousing are the best services that one can make us eof from this tool. Paralllel processing makes it ver fast and deliver results in short time.
Cons:
The hybrid architecture is not that effective and can be make simple to make better use of normal simple design .
Great database for small and medium-sized businesses.
Pros:
Teradata has huge amounts of support for SQL and is faster than alternatives when retrieving and storing data. No slowdowns at all.
Cons:
Teradata is generally more limited and is harder to use than competitors, most notably Oracle. Onboarding process could use a bit of work as well.
Tera-Texasn
Comments: Teradata helps companies get more value from data than any other company. The big data analytic solutions, integrated marketing applications, and a team of experts can help your company gain a sustainable competitive advantage with data. Teradata helps organizations leverage all their data so they can know more about their customers and business and do more of what's really important.
Must have Data Analysis Software
Pros:
This tool allow to look at the past queries which we have used, so that we can keep a track of them. Also it provides very strong analysis power on the data. It allows to work on huge amount of data in terabytes at same time which is very strong advantage.
Cons:
Mostly dependent on java. And console is not very user friendly. Since it works on NOSQL, the ease of usage that we have in RDBMS is missing.
