Astrill VPN Review

4.0 last year

Comments: I think it is good for people who are in China and need to use blocked apps or blocked content

Pros:

Astrill is easy to use, strong encryption and when I was in China it worked well compared to the others

Cons:

Astrill is expensive, sometimes with some inconsistency in speed

Fast Connection and Reliable Security.

4.0 3 years ago

Comments: For accessing geo locked locations, this is very useful. For personal use like in Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime this has worked very well. Also for secured connection this is proven.

Pros:

This software has both PC and mobile version so that gives flexibility. The locations offered are very useful as most of countries' servers are available. There is some dedicated IP locations which has benefitted in accessing geo blocked sites and also the VPN protocol of this application has provided greater security as this is a question of business level data. The switching between different locations is very fast. Also the speed is not capped.

Cons:

The user interface doesn’t look very appealing. The price seemed high compared with competitor VPN service providers. Also, the app is slow in some cases.

A decent solution for expats in China - and a good overall VPN

4.0 3 years ago

Comments: If you are looking into this VPN because you live in China, or plan to move there, then you should consider Astrill as one tool in your arsenal. It will go down, and it will cause headaches. Sometimes it will go down, and all of the VPN providers will go down, too, so maybe this is more of a fault on VPN technology and less on Astrill. My advice for those similar in my use case, do the following. Get one VPN (I suggest Astrill), one shadow socks service (I recommend Undercurrent SS), and finally, get a roaming Hong Kong mobile sim card. If you use all three of these, you'll be golden.

Pros:

I've used Astrill since 2014 and never really had a problem with it. My use case was always to bypass the Chinese firewall while living there. When it worked, it worked; when it didn't, you were left without unfiltered internet. While we began using more solutions better geared towards businesses getting past this firewall, I always kept Astill as a backup VPN for travel. Astrill is a good solution; they've been around for a long time. If you're a novice, their app is easy to use, and their IP locations are enough that you can usually find an excellent place for consistent speed.

Cons:

The biggest downside with Astrill is that they've been known as the go-to VPN for those in China. This means they are a big target when China decides to crack down. This is why things can be frustrating if you rely on online services that China blocks.

Speed is great.

5.0 3 years ago

Comments: For regular or business use, this is a great application. The desktop version seemed more convenient to use. The pricing policy could be made more competitive.

Pros:

I liked the fact that all the features are accessible even the security protocol settings. The servers are mostly all around the world which gives more freedom of choice. The features are excellent like split tunneling, security protocol, bandwidth allocation etc. Speed is not constraint so that is a good thing.

Cons:

The UI looks choppy. It needs regular update. The features like UDP could be added. Some serves should be replaced with dedicated IP servers.
