Best Project Controls Start-up of the 20-teens, very little not to like

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: Aphex Planner has been a great tool to work with; it has opened up an industry desperate for improvement and change to the benefits of forward thinking and the power of computing. I have had to write to the support team to thank them for the work of his team. I really believe that the team genuinely care about my outcomes on project and as a user. Aphex got three things right where most start-ups I've met get things wrong. 1. Aphex didn't focus on MVP. They focused on solving the problem at hand, as well as possible
2. Aphex brought in experts to help with design of the UI and the UX. These make the product what it is. Nobody would but it, if it looked like another spreadsheet or worse something messy.
3. Aphex have focused intensely on building client relationships and looking after people like me during our onboarding process. This has made me feel comfortable to trust my project to Aphex, knowing that if I struggle, the team will be there to support. And that is so crucial.

Pros:

The software is clean with a great user interface. Early versions ran a little slowly in their link to the cloud, but I fear it was hosted off a tower server at the office. Now things have moved on, and the experience is crash free and seamlessly fast. I love the way the software caters to visual learners and adapts modern technologies with tried and tested Last Planner technique.

Cons:

There are still a couple of moments where I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do to achieve my aims, but this has always been mitigated by the excellent and available customer service support that I have received.

Your notes are tremendous Philip! Hopefully you have seen that we've been working hard to continuously improve the experience for our users - even for sites with a poor internet connection. Our next major update (which we are currently testing internally) reinvents how we handle data (amongst many other things) to make it the fastest version of Planner yet! We are also embedding support in Planner where you need it. Hopefully to reduce the need to turn to us - but ofcourse the highlight of George's day is hearing from our users!!

I use it more than P6!

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: Programme buy in is solved for construction teams, no offline programmes saying conflicting things now. Constant updated live programme access is a great help - temporary works teams, quality teams and commercial have all benefited with having access into the live short term programme.

Pros:

The fact everyone contributes to the updates is a great benefit for the construction team programme buy in. The regular updates keeps everyone current on the current situation onsite. Plus its much more transparent for tracking reasons for delay. Even yesterday I looked back on numerous different reasons for delay to assist with a legacy PMI that needed clarifying.

Cons:

Educating teams to use it on google chrome, the default position for new users when they get the link for the first time is to open Aphex on explorer, to which their first impression is to complain it doesn't work. Which of course is false but Ive had to have that chrome conversation many times.

Aphex Response

What a review John! The team want to hire you in our sales department!!!! Ps Chrome limitation will be removed soon.

Planner usage to create IT project plannings very fast

3.0 5 years ago

Comments: Fast IT project planning generation from scratch
Would be more efficient if easier to interface with external tools both on input & output modes (LDAP, Excel etc...)

Pros:

Easy to take in hands Good rendering in plannings produced Wide variety of dependencies taken into account in the tool Part time availability of resources usable

Cons:

Low integration with other tools enabling few rework mechanisms in Excel or other software of same nature

Aphex review

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: Overall, Aphex is an industry changing product. They've capitalised on a niche market and i wish them all the best for the future.

Pros:

Easy to use weather and tide function. The interactive dashboard which displays vital project information on the go - no need to update large excel spreadsheets. The drag and slide function, makes setting up a gannt chart / view very quick and the filter by sub contractors is extremely handy. Linking the activity with an area has also proven to be very useful at identifying clashes before the works commence, which will reduce error time on site.

Cons:

Speed and offline usage - Why didn't they create an app !!!!!! Also the interface with other software's is poor - but i know the guys are working on this

Aphex - A step up

4.0 5 years ago

Comments: Now that things are up and running, the software is working really well. Having such an attentive support team has made it much more manageable. It is definitely a step up from old excel programmes.

Pros:

Aphex makes it much easier to track progress and stops people fudging how things went. It allows you to quickly record delays and see trends that have caused them - the ability to tie images to these incidents is really useful. Also, being able to outline works areas on drawings allows you to see works clashes.

Cons:

It can be a bit buggy as it is so new. The support team are usually quick to help out though.

Review of Planner on HS2 Enabling works

4.0 5 years ago

Comments: This product has enabled me and my team to fully switch from manually editing Powerpoint presentations & excel lookahead programmes, which absorbed many hours of administration each month. Now the site engineers do a quick 10-15 minute update each day, and the software does all the administration work automatically. And the automatic clash detection eliminates the need for the more experienced engineers to review every minute detail looking for clashes.

Pros:

The product is web based, which allows anyone the ability to access anywhere on any laptop at any time. The user interface is intuitive and easy to learn. The product provides statistics about the root causes of issues. My most favourite element is the ability to programme activities on drawings allowing us to "space plan" activities in specific locations, and the software automatically detects where there might be an issue in the future. Until we started using planner, this was done manually with excel spreadsheets & powerpoint presentations.

Cons:

Integration with other software/products. It would be good if this product had an integration capacity to import into P6 or Excel, as this is a very useful detailed planning tool, but for high level reporting on large scale projects we cant solely rely on on it, and still use Primavera P6.

Vital to our day-to-day workflow

4.0 3 years ago

Comments: We have benefited greatly from Planner overall. Despite it's flaws it is a good tool.

Pros:

Easy to use and free with the MS 365 Suite of products. This makes it worth it right out of the box.

Cons:

I would like to see the dates for start and end be able to be relabeled and have the ability to decide what is seen without opening the task. It is very frustrating to have all or none on the email settings.

TWBN Aphex Review

4.0 5 years ago

Comments: Found it very usefull to do short term planning and feed directly back to our PM and planning manager.P6 can become cumbersome on a large scale, this solves that problem. Easy to use and good for lesser experienced employees to get experience in programming. Output is very clear .This is now being used across many of BAM Nuttals sites-previously excel was always used, which we believe is now outdated.

Pros:

Online database Customer support and suggestion based optimisation Ease of implementation Subcontractor performance can be tracked

Cons:

Some bugs due to it being a new software

The engineers planner 5*

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: From an engineers perspective, it's functional, easy to use and really simple to plan the daily, weekly, monthly activities. The interface feels familiar and you feel comfortable using the system after 1 session. Unlike more notabe software which take time to get understand.

The drag and drop function makes it simple to rearrange tasks and activities. It really is the engineers daily planning software of choice.

Pros:

It's Simple and easy, within minutes of using it, you feel comfortable navigating around the software and planning the activity. The links are easy to create between tasks. With a drag and drop function you can make an actual connection between activities, reinforcing the purpose of the construction phases. Instead of typing in dates which feels too processed.

Cons:

It's a stand out piece of software compared to the go-to MS project. Nothing so far i don't like

This has now sneakily become an everyday use

5.0 5 years ago

Pros:

I plan my work faster. I know what is going on around my work and on the rest of the project. And I know what is causing delay when it happens. I rely on it all the time now.

Cons:

When it was first released it was bare minimum in terms of features but they seem to be constantly added more and more features so its less of an issue now.

Cons:

A great tool for short term planning

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: Great - a brilliant tool which has improved visibility and coordination of the short term plan as well as helping close the loop back to the master programme

Pros:

All short term / engineers programmes are in one place allowing one integrated short term programme to exist that is live at all times. The bubble chart view that it provides at the click of a few buttons is industry leading in terms of visual representation of the short term plan and a great tool for communicating the programme to the onsite team

Cons:

It would be good if actualised activities could be hidden with the click of a button to improve the user experience when building their programme after a few months use

Pros:

Cons:
