Reviews of Particle
Comprehensive, Global IoT Platform
Comments: I am a very happy and long-term customer of Particle. Particle allows me to focus on my business not on building and maintaining a global IoT platform. This is a huge productivity and scaling factor for my business.
Pros:
Particle provides a consistent, supported and secure IoT platform to get your IoT solution on-line and working quickly.
Cons:
Particle needs to roll out new features such as digital twins and eDRX more quickly to keep up with the competition.
Great choice for our Escape Room
Comments: We have an Escape Room, with multiple rooms, and multiple puzzles in each room. With Particle, I can build the puzzle, and then easily have it communicate state. This made our room much easier to build, and cooler for the guests.
Pros:
The Arduino compatibility, coupled with the internet communication, was perfect for designing puzzles for our Escape Room. I was able to set up a common library with universal functionality, and then add the customizations necessary to it. Where more powerful Arduino was required, a simple serial interface between the Particle (we use Argon's) and the Arduino was simple. It wide access to ported Arduino libraries meant that I was able to interface to many off the shelf hardware solutions quickly and easily. But having self contained puzzles that were able to communicate easily over the internet not only made building the room much simpler (no wiring), but also allowed me to script the puzzles using Python.
Cons:
Particle relies on their central server. This increases latency at times, as well as makes us dependent on the external internet functioning. Being able to operate our own central server would increase reliability and reduce dependency.
Full IoT capabilities
Comments: Good platform, great 3rd party integrations and reasonable budget hardware.
Pros:
Hardware plus software and cloud application package all in one.
Cons:
The recent change of increase on prices and the deprecation on Particle 3rd gen XENON.
